Cheap Solar Panels

One of the main facgtors that have kept people away from using solar panels on their homes is cost. Solar panels can be very expensive. Using traditional solar panels, it can take up to 25 years to redeem your costs.

Fortunately, it won't always be this way. There's a new technology called SLIVER, which is significantly reducing the cost of solar panels. By using SLIVER solar panels, it can take as little as 5 years for you to redeem your cost. From that point on, you're making a profit through reduced (or non-existent) electricity bills. And if you're connected to the grid (where you sell your electricity back to the electricity companies), you'll make even more profit!

Who Invented SLIVER Technology?

SLIVER technology was invented at the Centre For Sustainable Energy Systems, which is part of the Australian National University. Funding was provided by Origin Energy - Australia's second largest energy provider.

What Makes SLIVER Technology Cheaper?

  • SLIVER technology uses up to 90% less silicon than traditional solar panel technology
  • SLIVER technology has better performance when partially covered or shaded. Sliver cells can be spaced with a gap between them, which allows light to be captured by both sides of the cells.
  • SLIVER technology provides greater output. This is because it can operate at a lower temperature than conventional crystalline modules.

The result? Cheap solar panels!

Other Benefits of SLIVER Technology?

As well as providing cheap solar panels, SLIVER technology provides other benefits.

SLIVER cells are so thin and flexible that they could have any number of applications. They are also semi-transparent, which opens the possibilities up even further.

Being thin, flexible, and semi-transparent means that SLIVER cells could be used on windows, curved buildings, or even clothes.

Imagine a day when solar cells are so cheap that everything we own generates its own energy!
