Mission Beach (QLD, Australia)

Mission Beach is about a 2 hour drive south of Cairns, in Far North Queensland, Australia.

Out of my whole trip from Sydney, this was one of my favourite places (the other was Byron Bay). Mission beach is the name of the beach and the name of the village. Actually, there are 4 villages that make up Mission Beach:

  • South Mission Beach
  • Wongaling Beach
  • North Mission Beach
  • Bingil Bay

Mission Beach is quite isolated - it's about 20km off the main highway, and it's set among a tropical rainforest. Actually, it's one of the last areas on the north coast where rainforest reaches the ocean.

I'll definitely visit Mission Beach again. In fact, as I write this, I've just made plans to spend new years eve there.

Can't remember exactly where I was on the beach when I took this (it's such a long beach, and I did go for a run!). I think it was between Castaways Resort and the main town centre. I think Castaways Resort is up near where the sun is shining through the clouds...

And the water is the perfect temperature, here in the tropics...
