Every time I see one of my coworkers use a plastic fork, spoon or knife at lunch, even though we have metal silverware just steps away, my mind wanders to the garbage patch in our planet's oceans. Plastic has made life more convenient, but it has also made life's conveniences more disposable. Until we get out from under the thumb of plastic's lure, the garbage patches will only increase in size.
