A couple of guys near Eureka said they were looking near Devil's Creek because its location fits clues they found. Like the Youtube video which says it's several miles to hike to. Devil's Creek is one of few that's far enough to fit that clue.

McArthur Creek would be my first choice, because some locals said it's got lots of log jams.

[...] According to some news reports, Centurion is the second tallest tree in the world - second only to this giant redwood. But I beg to differ. I can name 15 redwoods that are taller than Centurion. [...]

Although I would enjoy seeing Hyperion, the tallest redwood, I tend to appreciate the largest redwoods the best...

http://www.mdvaden.com/grove_of_titans.shtml

The largest redwoods tend to dwarf the tallest redwoods. It's sort of like comparing a tall skinny marathon runner, to a less tall powerhouse brute of a football player.

Trees like The Lost Monarch can have quadruple the trunk mass as the much skinnier redwoods like Hyperion or Helios.

But tall or large, they are all fine trees.
